What is the SnowBall Classic?
The SnowBall Classic is Canada’s largest world-ranking DanceSport competition:
- DanceSport is competitive ballroom dancing
- 3 full days of competition
- All ages (juveniles to seniors) and all abilities (beginners to the World’s best)
What are the major events?
SnowBall 2010 will have 4 world-ranking competitions, sanctioned by the IDSF (International DanceSport Federation, the world governing body for competitive ballroom dancing):
- IDSF World Cup Latin
- IDSF International Open Standard
- IDSF International Open Latin
- IDSF Senior Open Standard (ages 35 & up)
Plus dozens of other competitions for all ages and abilities
What are the traditional Standard and Latin ballroom dances?
- Standard: Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep
- Latin: Samba, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive
All are danced on the popular TV shows "Dancing with the Stars", a hit in 32 countries, and "So You Think You Can Dance Canada".
How many competitors and judges participate, and where are they from?
The SnowBall Classic attracts over 400 competitors from up to 32 countries, including most recently: Canada and the USA, Austria, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Japan, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, etc. The judges are from at least 9 countries.
Any ties to the Olympics?
DanceSport is a sport recognized by the IOC (International Olympic Committee), and is eligible to be elevated to full medal status.

What is the Showcase of Champions?
The Showcase of Champions features non-judged show-dance performances by the top couples from around the world. Couples can perform any dance they wish, Standard and Latin ballroom with freestyle elements, or even other dance styles using any music, costumes, props, etc. they choose. Where is the event being held?

Who organizes the SnowBall Classic?
The SnowBall Classic is organized by a volunteer committee of DanceSport BC (DSBC) www.dancesportbc.com. DSBC is a non-profit organization that governs amateur ballroom dancers in BC.
